This fascinating and elegant b&b is located in an historic building in Ortigia, the island which juts out into the Ionian Sea and forms the heart of the old historic centre of Syracuse that once bustled with merchants trading commodities related to the sea. The most important of these was salt which was traded in bulk. In this building, located close to the Castello di Maniace, the salt merchant Bartolo sold his "white gold" and so the building acquired its current name. The building, constructed with large arched ceilings, conserves its original magic and fascination and the architectural features are complemented by tasteful and elegant furnishings.

The b&b comprises a large communal lounge and terrace and 7 bedrooms: three double rooms, two triple rooms and two quadruple rooms. All of the rooms have large, comfortable en-suite bathrooms with a shower, are individually decorated and are spacious and light. Some rooms have a small private terrace with a view of the magnificent historic centre. Many of the objects and pieces of furniture in the rooms have been made by talented local craftsmen. All rooms have an internet connection, an LCD satellite television, a mini bar and air conditioning.

The splendid location of the B&B will enable you to explore on foot the magnificent, compact historic centre of Ortigia and the Archeological Park of Syracuse. The most important cities of Sicilian Baroque can easily be reached by car: Noto, Ispica, Ragusa Ibla, Palazzolo Acreide and Modica. There are numerous beaches and nature reserves to visit in the area, from Vendicari to Irminio, all spacious and with fine golden sand. We recommend in particular "Cala Mosche" inside the Vendicari Nature Reserve. Also worthy of a visit are the small lakes of Cassibile (it takes around one hour to walk down to the gorges) and the archeological nature reserve of Pantalica.

Children up to 3 years of age are allowed to stay free of charge and a complimentary cot will be supplied for infants. Upon request the kitchen may be used by parents with infants.

Small domestic pets are permitted, upon request, at an additional charge of Euros 15.00 per day.
