The luxuriant mediterranean gardens which surround the property represent the calling card for this magical place, an historic "Masseria" or farmhouse dating back to 1740 which has been converted into an exclusive 4 star lodge with two spectacular swimming pools, 25 and 30 metres long, and stunning views of the sea in front of the tuna fishery in the Vendicari Nature Reserve. You will not be disappointed either in everything else that awaits you here from the warm welcome and comfort of the rooms to the incomparable cuisine and the extensive cellar of Sicilian wines.

Outside, in addition to the large courtyard which surrounds the historic "Masseria" dating back to 1740, there are numerous places in which to relax under the shade of the luxuriant vegetation in the garden and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding landscape and the seas around Vendicari. A magnificent and imposing 30 x 6 metre swimming pool is located near to the "Masseria", surrounded by a beautiful lawn and immersed in olive, carob and age-old almond trees. Another swimming pool, also surrounded by age-old olive trees and measuring 25 x 4 metres, is located near to the "Frantoio", a converted oil mill, and is also available for use by guests. Inside the "Masseria" there is a communal room with a fireplace, a satellite television set, sofas and breakfast tables. Accommodation in the "Masseria" comprises 4 suites, "Ficodindia", "Mandorlo", "Ulivo" and "Melograno", each with an independent entrance, a bedroom with a double bed and a bathroom with shower, and one bedroom, "Gelso", with a double bed, a bathroom with shower and an independent entrance. All are equipped with heating and air-conditioning.

Here you can go to the beach by bicycle or even on horseback and visit one of the most beautiful Nature Reserves (Vendicari)in south-western Sicily where rare species of migratory birds nest at certain times of the year making it an ideal spot for bird-watching enthusiasts. Other marvellous beaches and the famous cities of Baroque (Ragusa Ibla, Modica, Noto, Scicli, Palzzolo Acreide and Ispica) which are classified together as a UNESCO world heritage site are all located within a few kilometres. It you have a little more time to spare there is no shortage of places to visit such as the Etna National Park, beautiful Taormina with its Greek theatre, the Cava Grande gorges of the Cassibile river and the other wonders to be found in this heavenly corner of Sicily.

The bathroom fittings are designed by Philippe Starck, the wool mattresses have been combed in the traditional way and the cushions are filled with goose feathers. All of the rooms are air-conditioned except the "Frantoio" where a conscious choice has been made not to spoil this historic building. Children of 18 years of age and above are allowed.

Breakfast and Brunch
In the morning the hotel prepares a buffet breakfast on the Codalupo Terrace which includes a comprehensive selection of local produce, fresh local pastries and cakes, eggs, cold meats, cheeses and fruit. Light snacks and bites to eat are available for brunch or a light lunch by the side of the swimming pool. Dinner can be taken at one of the excellent local restaurants. Flat-screen television sets are available in the bedrooms and in the hall area complete with DVD player and subscription to SKY news, cinema, sport, arts, travel and culture channels. There is a wine bar and bar service on the terrace and by the swimming pool and a room where guests are able to sample and purchase produce made on the property and by other local producers. Guided tours to local sites and nature reserves can be arranged. Mountain bikes are available for use by guests free of charge.

Typical local produce available for sampling and purchase on site includes:

• Extra virgin olive oil and "zagara" honey (our own production)
• Sicilian DOP and IGP wines produced by local wineries (Nero d'Avola, Moscato di Noto, Cerasuolo di Vittoria, Chardonnay, Bianco d'Alcamo and Rosso dell'Etna).
• A range of extra virgin olive oil soaps produced by hand and available in various scents including lemon, mandarin, zagara, sweet almond, prickly pear, bergamot, rosemary, cinnamon, green tea and sage, carob and lavender, camomile, muscat rose, pumice, volcanic lava and green clay.
• Typical local products preserved in oil such as cherry tomatoes from Pachino, dried tomatoes, black olives, tuna fillets, tuna fish eggs, herrings, pate made with dried tomatoes and pate made with herrings and mediterranean herbs
• Jam made from mulberries, oranges, lemons, bitter oranges, figs and quinces.
• Chocolate from Modica in a range of different flavours which include pistachio from Bronte, chilli pepper and vanilla.
