3-4 Days

Western Sicily: Erice, Scopello, San Vito, Segesta, Selinunte, the Zingaro Nature Reserve and the salt-pans of Trapani

The distances between places of interest in the western area of Sicily are relatively small which makes it quite easy to visit several destinations in a single day. This part of the island is somewhat neglected but offers an interesting combination of natural beauty, archeological sites, wine, food, sea and cities.
We recommend staying at Vigna Virzi near to Camporeale where short stays of two to three days are possible.

  • Day 1: in the morning we recommend a visit to the village of Scopello where you can visit the traditional farmhouse, the famous tuna fishery and take a swim in the crystal-clear turquoise sea followed by a visit to San Vito co Capo for a dip at the caribbean-like main beach or at the delightful small beach of Macari. In the afternoon you can visit nearby Erice, one of the most beautiful and well-preserved medieval towns in Sicily.
  • Day 2: a visit to the archeological area of Segesta in the morning followed in the afternoon by a visit to the wineries at Marsala complete with wine tasting and on your return, if time allows, a visit to the ruins of Gibellina.
  • Day 3: a drive to Portopalo di Menfi and a swim in the refreshing waters off the beach of Cipollazzo followed by lunch at the legendary fish restaurant Vittorio (located on the very same beach) and a visit to the archeological park at Selinunte in the afternoon.
  • Day 4: a walk and a swim at the Zingaro Nature Reserve in the morning followed by a visit to the Satgnone Reserve in Trapani and a tour of the windmills, salt-pans and salt museum.
