South-eastern Sicily and the cities of baroque

South-eastern Sicily is the area of the island which contains the greatest number of treasures to discover: golden beaches with African sand dunes, gorges and canyons carved by rivers out of the rock, nature reserves with numerous species of migratory bird, historic tuna fisheries, archeological sites, the masterpieces of Sicilian baroque, fields dotted with ancient olive and carob trees and, of course, a clean and uncontaminated sea.
In this part of the island we recommend the following properties: Marù, Acanto, Azucena, La Tenuta, Azalea, Monteluce.

  • Day 1: visit Ispica in the morning and spend the afternoon on Pozzallo beach which has received the Blue Flag award for cleanliness from the Legambiente. Late in the afternoon, as sunset approaches, we recommend a visit to the remains of the tuna fishery at Portopalo di Capopassero where you can also admire the beautiful island of Capopassero
  • Day 2: visit the Vendicari nature reserve and take a swim at one of the beaches in the reserve (we recommend Calamosche beach). In the afternoon we suggest a visit to the splendid baroque city of Noto followed by dinner in one of the city's trattorias
  • Day 3: walk around the small lakes in the Cavagrande del fiume Cassibile nature reserve
  • Day 4: visit Ragusa Ibla in the morning and in the afternoon go to Modica to admire the most beautiful baroque city in Sicily where you can also sample some of the city's famous chocolate and dine at the Torre d'Oriente restaurant

We recommend that you try to find a good spot here from which to observe the small island of Brancati where the famous Italian writer used to live. In the afternoon we suggest a visit to Capo delle Correnti to admire the wonderful natural amenities to be found in the area and to watch the Mediterranean as the sun goes down
